Natively from Paris, Velléda C. Pelpel-Miragias was admitted at Paris Conservatoire régional Supérieur – CNR – at 14 in cello performance, and graduated in Solfege with first prize 1st of class 2 years later. She then became a student of Xavier Gagnepain and Hortense Cartier-Bresson at Conservatoire National de Region de Boulogne and won first prizes in both cello and chamber music, with unanimous decision of jury for the latter. Velléda graduated from Indiana University, in the US with a performance diploma, where she studied with Iseut Chuat and Janos Starker, and then obtained her Master’s of Music at Boston University, MA. She received the ministry of culture awards from France, and a full tuition from Boston University. She won the international “prix de la ville d’Epernay”, in France, 1997. Velléda also worked with Michel Strauss, Philippe Muller, Sonia Wieder-Atherton, Gary Hoffman, Rostislav Dubinsky (Borodin Quartet) and Raphaël Hillyer (viola from Julliard Quartet for 25 years). She participated in Master Classes with Anner Bylsma, Isaac Stern, Gerogy Sebök. Velléda has performed as a soloist with Lourmarin Youth Symphony Orchestra, and was invited to play at the Summer festival of Cucuron, in the Lubéron (France) as well as in Germany. Velléda has collaborated with musicians such as Renaud Capucon, Jiang Wang; she was invited at the “Cello International Festival”, in Beauvais, France, with Janos Starker in a cello octet in 1998, and was selected to perform in “Académie Européenne de Musique”, in the Aix-en-Provence festival in 1999, under David Stern conductor, where she performed as Chamber and Orchestra player. She played in Greater Boston Symphony, conducted by Jacques Zoon, in collaboration with Malcolm Lowe (BSO Concertmaster), Steven Ansell (principal viola, BSO) and Iseut Chuat (cello) in 2000. She is an active musician in the Greater Boston area, playing with the Boston Ballet, Indian Hill Symphony and other local orchestras.

Velleda performs with pianist Mika Tanaka as “Duo Terre de Sienne”.

Velléda is one of the coaches for the BYSO (Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra) and she conducts the Belmont Waldorf High School orchestra since 2005.

Velléda co-founded Artisan Music Studios (www.artisanmusic.com) with her husband Gus as well as Artisan Childcare Center for the Arts, a music immersion program (http://www.artisanchildcarecenter.com/).

Velléda C Pelpel-Miragias, originellement de Paris, fut admise au Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris (CNR) en violoncelle à l‘âge de 14 ans et obtint, deux ans après, son Premier Prix de Solfège niveau Supérieur première nommée, à l‘Unanimité du Jury.

Elle étudia ensuite avec Xavier Gagnepain et Hortense Cartier-Bresson au CRR de Boulogne-Billancourt et reçut ses premiers prix de Violoncelle et de Musique de chambre, le dernier à l‘Unanimité du Jury.

Elle étudia ensuite à Indiana University, Etats-Unis avec Iseut Chuat et Janos Starker où elle obtint un “Performance Diploma”, puis poursuivit son “Master in Music Performance” à Boston University, dont elle reçut une bourse complète d‘étude.

Elle reçut également une bourse du ministère de la culture en France, et remporta le « Prix de la ville d‘Epernay » en 1997.

Velléda a aussi travaillé avec Michel Strauss, Philippe Muller, Sonia Wieder-Atherton, Gary Hoffman, Rotislav Dubinsky (Quatuor Borodin) et Raphaël Hillyer (altiste du Quatuor Julliard pendant 25 ans).

Elle a participé à des Master Classes avec des musiciens tels qu’Anner Bylsma, Isaac Stern, Georgy Sebök.

Velléda a interprété le concerto en Ré Majeur de Haydn en tant que soliste avec l‘Orchestre des Jeunes de Lourmarin en 1996. Elle a également été invitée comme soliste et chambriste en Allemagne cette même année.

Elle a collaboré avec des musiciens tels que Renaud Capuçon, Jiang Wang. Elle fut invitée au “Festival International du Violoncelle » de Beauvais, en France, avec Janos Starker et Iseut Chat dans un octuor de violoncelles. En 1999 elle fut sélectionnée pour jouer dans “l‘Académie Européenne de Musique » à Aix en Provence, sous la direction de David Stern, en musique de chambre et orchestre.

Elle a joué dans le « Greater Boston Symphony » dirigé par Jacques Zoon (Flûtiste Super soliste du Boston Symphony Orchestra -BSO), en collaboration avec Malcom Lowe ( Premier violon solo du BSO) et Steven Ansell (Alto Solo du BSO) ainsi qu’ Iseut Chuat(Violoncelle) en 2000.

Elle joue actuellement avec le Boston Ballet, Indian Hill Symphony et d‘autres orchestres de la région. Velleda a formé le “Duo Terre de Sienne” avec la pianiste Mika Tanaka. Elle est une des coaches de l‘orchestre “Boston Youth Symphony” et elle dirige l‘orchestre de Belmont Waldorf High School, à Boston depuis 2005.
